CameraModders may distribute independently developed software for use with compatible cameras you own or are authorised to modify.
If a mod invokes a firmware update, a service menu, or engineering function already present in the user’s camera, the user proceeds at their own risk with no manufacturer warranty or support; strictly no camera code is distributed by CameraModders.
CameraModders has a policy of ethical behaviour and will not exploit security issues or bugs that give users a backdoor into cameras. No ROM dumps are distributed or published by CameraModders. Camera security features such as firmware signing is never touched by CameraModders.
CameraModders is 100% unofficial and not associated or endorsed by any camera company. Where a bug or security exploit is found it is reported to the relevant company e.g. Canon, Fuji, etc.
CameraModders is in the EU and UK, the relevant EU and UK reverse engineering laws apply:
- Authorised users may observe, study and test software during permitted operations. §69d(3) UrhG
- Necessary decompilation to achieve interoperability with independently created software can be permitted, subject to conditions - including restrictions on using and sharing the resulting information. This is not limited simply to “personal use.” §69e UrGh
This is a hobby project. If you are an employee or representative of a camera company and would like to clarify any app, mod or my security research using a large language model such as Claude, I am happy to hear from you. Engineers or managers may get in touch with CameraModders by the appropriate channel: cameramodders@proton.me
This project develops independent software (apps) intended to interoperate with supported camera operating systems. Where applicable, our research relies on the permissions for lawful software users in sections 50B and 50BA of the UK Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, together with section 296A as well as the EU protections cited above. These provisions are subject to statutory conditions.
